Cloth Diaper Inserts

Cloth Diaper Inserts
If you are using cloth diapers that require inserts, there is a quick and easy way to make your own.  This gives you the ability to make them as wide or an long as you like them and you can regulate the thickness as well.

I used this fun lion material for the insert covers and have used them in g diapers, flip, and Thirsties (as pictured.)

What You Need
Absorbent microfleece fabric for inside layers
Hemp, Cotton, or Flannel fabric for outer layer
*Wash and dry all fabrics before cutting so that shrinking happens before making the insert.
Sewing Machine
Measuring Tape/Ruler
Scissors

Determine the size insert that is best for your child.  I personally wanted an insert that was wider than any I have found because my son leaks out of the sides of the thin inserts.
Measure and cut the fabric.  I used 6 1/2" x 13" rectangles.
Stack the inner and outer layers of fabric rectangles.
Decide how many inner layers of material you would like inside of the insert depending on how heavy a wetter your child is, and sandwich the outer layers of material on top and bottom.

Sew around the edges of the insert, being sure to get through all of the layers.
You can use a basic zigzag stitch such as setting "D" pictured above, reinforcing twice.
If you have more setting options, you can also use a fancier stitch such as the Honeycomb stitch "N" pictured above.

The final product is made just the way you like it with the materials that work best for you and the measurements and thickness that fit your child's diaper.
You can even make thicker inserts for overnight and thinner for daily wear.
