Bow Tie For Bubba

Bow Tie For Bubba
These bow ties are perfect for occasions
when the sharp dressed little man in
your life needs to impress!  The white bow tie has a thinner center wrap than the blue gingham, giving a slightly different style.

I wanted something cute for my son's
Easter outfit and this did the trick.
Now to make a more complicated
men's matching one for my hubby.

What You Need
Stiff fabric (in the canvas family)
Elastic (1/2" or 1")
Measuring Tape/Ruler
Scissors

White Bow Tie
Cut a 5" x 5" square of fabric for the bow and a 6" x 1" rectangle for the center wrap.
I used a stiff fabric that was mostly polyester.
Fold both the square and the rectangle in half with the good side of the fabric on the inside. Sew a double seam around the edges, leaving a 1" opening on one side of the square and leaving the short side of the rectangle open in order to turn them inside out (see below).

Make sure the center wrap is turned right side out and slide it onto the square piece of fabric, naturally pinching it in the center to create the bow tie effect!
Use the 1/2" elastic and run it around the collar of the shirt, leaving a 1/2" on each end to overlap.  Cut.
Run the elastic through the back of the center wrap.  Overlap the 1/2" of elastic on each end and sew together.  Hide the seam under the center wrap of the bow tie.  Place a few hand stitches through the elastic, back of center wrap, and square piece to keep in place.
 Blue Gingham Bow Tie
The blue gingham fabric I used was a thin cotton and therefore I had to layer it on top of the stiff white poly fabric.  Cut out a 5" x 5" square and a 6" x 2 1/2" rectangle.
Fold both the square and the rectangle in half with blue gingham on the inside and sew around the edges leaving a 1" opening as shown in the diagram for the white bow tie above.
Flip pattern side out and slide center wrap onto square piece.
Use the 1" elastic and run it around the collar of the shirt, leaving a 1/2" on each end to overlap.  Cut.  Run the elastic through the back of the center wrap.  Overlap the 1/2" of elastic on each end and sew together.  Hide the seam under the center wrap of the bow tie.  Place a few hand stitches through the elastic, back of center wrap, and square piece to keep in place.
This lil' gentleman is ready to go!
