Jewelry Display Case
I have been trying to figure out for some time now a crafty way to store my jewelry and have never been a fan of jewelry boxes because all of the necklaces get bunched up and tangled.
For a period of time I even had them hanging on hooks on the back of the bedroom door, which drove my husband crazy every time he shut the door.
Finally, we are both happy with this solution
and it looks great on the bedroom wall!
What You Need
- Display Case 15" x 15" -(This can be any size you desire or you can even build your own. Typically for pinning pictures, I found this one for $15 at Marshalls.)
- Three 1/4" oak dowels cut to the length of your box
(I got two 36" dowels and cut them with the hand saw) - Screwdriver and a screw to use as a starter for the hooks
- Pliers to help you slide the S Hooks onto the dowel
- Measuring Tape/Ruler
- Hammer for hanging
- 24 (four packs of 6) 5/64" S-Hooks
- Two 1/2" Cup Hooks (shown below - top row)
- Four 3/4" Screw Eye Hooks (shown below - bottom row)
Use your screwdriver and starter screw to help you start the hole and then screw a Cup Hook on each side of the inside top of the box, close to the corner.
Slide one of the dowels behind the Cup Hooks and secure so that it is hanging from them.
Measure a half inch down from the first dowel on each side of the box.
Use your starter screw and then screw in a Screw Eye Hook on each side.
Secure an S-Hook on each end of the second dowel and hang on the Screw Eye Hooks.
Measure another half inch down from the second dowel on each side of the box.
Use your starter screw and then screw in a Screw Eye Hook on each side.
For the third dowel, use pliers to slide the S-Hooks about a 1/2" apart across the dowel.
They should be tight on the dowel so that they stay in place and don't slide around.
I rotated the S-Hooks front facing and back facing as shown to better separate jewelry.
Here are all three dowels hung inside the box.
Now you can fill the dowels any way you like.
I used the top two for earrings and the bottom one for necklaces.
Here is a more realistic view of my crammed jewelry box!
Hang it on the wall and wa-la.
You have just made a cool wall accent that is also functional!
I love the way everything fits in one case. No more searching all over for things to accent my clothes and no more tangles. Thanks.
