Burlap and Blossoms

I wanted to create something fun and floral to decorate for spring.

Merging the burlap and the bright quilted floral gives the basket a unique and interesting design.

The feathers add an optional flare in jazzing up the final touch.
What You Need:
  • Flat Back Hanging Basket
  • Burlap Garland
  • Several Colorful "Stiff" Fabric Pieces (Patterned and Solid)
  • Colorful Wood Buttons
  • Floral Stem Wire
  • Craft Pliers
  • Marabou Feathers (optional)

Cut flower shapes with five petals out of the fabric pieces.  These shapes were all cut freehand in order to create a less uniform appearance.  If you do not have success with the freehand method, print an image off of the internet and use it as a pattern.

The flowers should be cut in three sizes (small, medium, and large.)

Stack the floral pieces in layers of three.

Fold the arrangement in half and cut a small slit directly in the middle.

Using the craft pliers, make a small loop on the end of the stem wire.

Placing a colorful wood button in the center of the arrangement, lace the stem wire through from the front to the back.

Make another loop in the back of the arrangement to secure the fabric pieces in place.

Here are some examples of the combinations that I came up with.

Fill the flat back hanging basket with burlap garland and puff out the folds on all sides.  If you are using a larger basket, fill the bottom of the basket with floral foam.

Begin filling out the basket with the flowers, securing the stem wire in the burlap and floral foam.

Continue to fill the basket on all sides until the arrangement is to your liking.  Be sure to allow the burlap to show in between the flowers.

Marabou feathers (used in boas) add a fun touch to the burlap and blossoms!
