Mane Highlights for 7-12-2013

This week is short and sweet but with some rather interesting insights and surprises!  I can't believe how fast the summer is flying by, but I must say I love this swimming and picnicking weather.  Unfortunately I don't seem to be able to step out of the house at any time of day without getting covered in mosquito bites.  It has always been like this for me, but never gets easier.  Luckily I found out a soothing remedy to these itchy bites as well as the itch of poison ivy.  The answer is Jewelweed, which is mother nature's remedy to poison ivy and other itchy nucences such as bees stings and mosquito bites.

Jewelweed tends to grow near or next to poison ivy, which is also a great consolation for those who love the outdoors.  It is called jewelweed because of the water repellent leaves that allow rain and dew drops to collect like jewels.

It took me this long in life to find out about this secret remedy, and to make matters worse to find out that many avid hikers not only know about it, but never hit the trail without it in case of skin irritation.  Really wish I would have known that  when I was getting a antibiotic/steroid cocktail for my face blowing up to several times its normal size.

New Find, New Friend, New Trend: Faerie Springs Farm
Luckily, I don't have to forage for Jewelweed myself.  Instead I found out about Faerie Springs Farm in Boonsboro, MD that makes soaps, sprays, and creams of Jewelweed!  Much easier to travel with and I have already been happily testing it for the past week.

Reflection of the Week: Question Authority
As you know from reading my articles and posts, I am highly fascinated with cultural pressures and social trends.  This of course led me to further investigate the Asiana Airline crash that occurred on July 6th in San Francisco after originating in China and stopping in South Korea.  Asiana is one of South Korea's two major airlines.  Continue

Chic of the Week: Could This Be...Pregnancy!
As I end my first trimester, I thought this would be a fun way to announce the expectation of baby #2!  It is still amazing to me to consider that I am actually pregnant because of the vast difference between this pregnancy and my first. Continue
