Hydrangea Lamp Shade

Hydrangea Lamp Shade

This Hydrangea Lamp Shade is quite simple to make.  I needed something to match our spare bedroom, which is blue and white.  One of the accents I have in the room are white hydrangeas and thought it would be fun to match them with a personalized lamp shade.

What You Need:
Old Lamp Shade (I got mine for $5)
Gold Acrylic Paint
Blue Ribbon
Fabric Tape
White Tissue Paper
Tan Beads
                                                                     Gold Craft Wire
                                                                     Hot Glue Gun

Take apart the old shade.  I removed the canvas covering, so that only the transparent plastic layer of the shade remained.  The glue left on the shade left a nice textured look.  I painted over this with two coats of a transparent gold acrylic paint.
The tape is folded over the inside and outside of the shade
in order to secure the ring.
This will be covered by the ribbon.
Hot Glue the seam on the back of the shade.
I painted the existing ribbon blue before trimming the edges.  This step can be eliminated when approaching the project with blue trim already.

Hot glue the ribbon to the top and bottom
trim of the shade, covering the exposed
 fabric tape.

In order to make the hydrangea flower, start with a rectangular piece of white
tissue paper.  Fold the corners under and crinkle the tissue paper to look like
the folds of a puffy hydrangea.  Make as many of these as you like,
and secure them to the shade in clusters using a hot glue gun.

As a final touch, glue one of the tan beads in the center of each flower.
Then, cut a piece of the gold craft wire and twist it to form a curly stem.
I secured the craft wire with glue under the bottom flower and tucked it under the blue ribbon trim with a dab of glue .

Wa-la!  The Hydrangea Lamp comes alive as the light softly  pours through the shade and the three-dimensional flowers.
