Baby Shower Cork Board Shadowbox

Present the Mom-to-be with a fabulous gift that is personalized for her little bundle of joy!

This shadowbox is a great addition to any nursery, and can follow the little one through her/his years, from hospital bracelet and footprint, to pics of best friends and baseball cards.

The cork board allows for constant reinvention of the display.
What You Need
  • Shadowbox with Cork Board - any shape or size (12" x 12" x 1.5")
  • Acrylic Paint - choose nursery colors (purple and yellow)
  • Paint Brushes - pointed round for lettering and 1" flat for surfaces
  • Ribbon for corner bows (yellow)
  • Eucalyptus or flowers for embellishment
  • Push Pins (I found pretty butterfly pins)
  • Hot Glue
  • Painters Tape (optional)

Before you get started, you may want to take the extra precaution of lining the inside edges of the shadowbox with painters tape, so they remain the original color (white) for contrast.

Cover the cork board with a few layers of watered down acrylic paint, allowing each layer to dry in between coats.  Then, lightly sweep the almost dry brush along the frame of the shadowbox.  This allows the original color (white) to show through, creating a distressed look.

Using the contrasting color (yellow) paint different sized polka-dots onto the cork board, once the primary color has dried.  I began with the larger dots and then added the smaller ones in the gaps.

Remove the tape from the inside edges of the shadowbox to reveal crisp, clean sides.

Cut a 4" piece of Eucalyptus (adding flowers optional) and tie a knot in the center with a 4" strip of ribbon.  Then, using another 4" strip of ribbon, tie a bow on top of the knot, around the Eucalyptus.
Make two of these.

Hot glue the arrangement in the upper left corner of the shadowbox, allowing the Eucalyptus to hang over slightly on either side (as shown).

Glue the two pieces of ribbon diagonally onto the sides of the shadowbox and onto the back so that the edges are hidden.

Here is the completed arrangement in the upper left corner of the shadowbox.

Add the second arrangement to the bottom right corner of the shadowbox using the same method.

Here is the shadowbox with both arrangements added.

Personalize the project by adding the baby's name to the top center of the shadowbox, using the pointed round lettering brush.

 Full view

Include the meaning of the baby's name on the bottom center of the shadowbox as an aesthetic complement and fun reminder.

 Full view with push pins.

Finally, obtain a sonogram picture of the baby (or print one off of their Facebook page),
and add a matching boarder.

*Added bonus - Have baby shower guests write notes of encouragement and well wishes to the mom-to-be and pin them all over the board before presenting the gift!
