Mane Highlights for Friday January 10, 2014

Hear Me Roar!: This Sunday celebrated the great feast of the Epiphany, or the arrival of the Magi in visiting the Christ child.  If you have an interactive Nativity set, you were finally able to move the three kings to their rightful place with the Holy Family!  There is not a lot known about the three men who came bearing gifts to Christ, but what is known (they were Gentiles who believed and worshiped Him) and the symbolism of the gifts they brought (Kingship, Divine Priesthood, Sacrifice) is worth knowing and recalling each Epiphany.

I am very thankful to have been asked to write a guest post for the blog The Humbled Homemaker.  This is a wonderful site for grace-filled, natural living tips!  My post was on using baby sign language, which has been very helpful and effective in our household with communicating before words are fully developed.

As I count down the week and some change (REALLY?) to the delivery and birth of our child, I wonder if the "warrior woman" spirit the natural birthing classes speak of ever really overtakes the anxiety and anticipation of the coming (painful) event.

        Reflection of the Week: The Gifts of the Magi
Wise men, three kings, Zoroastrian priests, Astronomers?  The three mysterious men from the East who came to visit the Christ child bearing significant gifts as recorded in Matthew 2:1-12 introduce several important revelations of Christ. Continue

             Chic of the Week: Before Words: Baby Sign Language
Our son looks up at us determined as he grunts and points insistently. My husband and I look at each other puzzled and begin to helplessly point at everything on the counter as our child becomes more and more discouraged. He clearly knows what he wants or needs from us, but is simply not able to communicate it. This is incredibly frustrating for all of us. Continue

You Might Be Pregnant If: One Week to Go!
I didn't imagine myself in an electric shopping cart for quite a few long years from now...however, pregnancy tends to stretch your imagination as well as your body in many unforeseeable ways!  Therefore, due to the sciatic nerve issues, I have found that this is my ticket for getting around stores such as Costco without the more embarrassing alternative of collapsing in public.  My son (riding along) and husband (taking pictures) got quite a kick out of this ordeal :)

Dynamic Quote: On Love
"Love takes up where knowledge leaves off."
-St. Thomas Aquinas
       I leave you with this until next week: Prayers for Childbirth
“Yet it was you who took me from the womb;
you kept me safe on my mother’s breast.
On you I was cast from my birth,
and since my mother bore me
you have been my God.”
(Ps 22:9-10)
“For you, O Lord, are my hope,
my trust, O Lord, from my youth.
Upon you I have leaned from my birth;
it was you who took me from my mother’s womb.
My praise is continually of you.”
(Ps 71: 5-6)
