Oh Sweet Lorraine

Imagine sharing seventy-five years of your life with another person.  The joys, the sorrows, and the incredible friendship that grew through it all.  Fred Stobaugh had just that with his beloved wife Lorraine, who he married in 1940 and lost a month before submitting this song to a singer/songwriting contest.

Fred, being neither a singer or songwriter and not following the rules to upload a video for the online submission, sent a large manila envelope with his submission directly to the studio.  Ninety-six year old Fred did not expect to have his song chosen, but was inspired by the contest after the recent loss of his beloved and wanted to put into words how he felt.  The contest was an outlet for him.

The "passion behind the lyrics and the letter he sent us were so heartwarming" that the studio and producers were won over and inspired by Fred's story and his song.  The studio hired professional musicians and a singer to bring the song to life.  The studio producer said that their mission is to "change the community one dream at a time."  Fred had no idea that his tribute to his wife could reach so many people and touch so many lives.

Love inspires and translates to all languages, including poetry and music.  Love is the language of the heart and of the human person.  Enjoy this sweet man's story of a long-lasting and committed love, and allow the passion to move you as well (tissues necessary.)

  1. Hello Kim, I found your blog though Raisinghomemakers.com. I just love the song and I cry every time I have listened to it. I pray that my husband and I get to have 70 something years and longer together and be just as happy as Fred and Lorraine. Have a wonderful and blessed week.
