Hear Me Roar!: Welcome Fall! As the crisp air drives out the humidity and mosquitoes it also happily ushers in the beloved season of "all things pumpkin!" I bought my first bag of pumpkin spice coffee this week to truly commemorate this seasonal change with my taste buds.
This week has been consumed by and devoted to finishing a painting (see below) to meet a deadline (tomorrow.) Our parish has asked parishioners to contribute personal artwork to display at an International Festival. The artwork should incorporate the meaning of "the Year of Faith" through the lens of the artist. I turned to my trusty gouache/watercolors, opened my sketchbook, and got to work. What do you think?
Also, if you haven't yet heard of the upcoming release of the movie 'Unstoppable,' it raises some very interesting points on human suffering and death and how we keep our faith throughout the midst of despair. I will be interested to see the movie at its release and compare my notes on suffering with the filmmaker's journey!
Reflection of the Week: Suffering: Unstoppable but Redemptive
Gallery Piece of the Week: In the Hands of the Priest
Submitting this tomorrow for the "Year of Faith" through my lens as an artist!
'In the Hands of the Priest' is the Eucharist, which is the pinnacle of our faith as Christians. United are the Church of the East and the West and the whole world under the Holy Spirit. The stole is gold to represent rejoicing and the vestment is red, symbolically representing "the blood of the martyrs is the seed of the church."
Lattes
- 2
- cups milk
- 2
- tablespoons canned pumpkin (not pumpkin pie mix)
- 1
- to 2 tablespoons sugar (to taste)
- 1/2
- teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
- 1
- tablespoon vanilla
- 1/2
- cup hot brewed coffee
Garnish, if desired
- Whipped cream
- Dash pumpkin pie spice
- 2
- cinnamon sticks
Steps
1- In 2-quart saucepan, heat milk, pumpkin and sugar over medium heat until hot (do not boil). Remove from heat. Stir in 1/2 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice, the vanilla and coffee.
Allow the Pumpkin-Spice Latte to cool, and serve over ice for a cold version.
If you do not have pumpkin pie spice at home, make your own by combining 1 tablespoon of ground cinnamon, 2 teaspoons of ground ginger and 1/2 teaspoon of ground nutmeg. This will make about 2 tablespoons of pumpkin pie spice mix.
