Hair Accessory Organizer Basket

Many women collect so many hair accessories from pony-tail holders, to headbands, to clips, barrettes, bobby pins, and so on.  This conglomeration often ends up as a tangled mess in a "junk drawer" in our bathroom.  In the name of organization and in order to add some more sanity to one more part of my life, I sorted and pitched anything that I didn't remember I had or knew I would never use.  Then I put together this crafty way to organize my accessories while hiding them in a favorite household accent - a basket!

What You Need

  • Basket (I used a 16"L x 11"W x 4"H)
  • Two plastic dividers with compartments (10 3/4"L x 7 1/2"W x 1 1/4"H)
  • Large piece of brown felt or two small pieces able to cover bottom of basket
  • Hot Glue or other strong bonding agent
Rather than use a bathroom drawer, I decided to use this basket in the sliding shelf above my dresser.  The accessories are hidden from sight and the basket adds a nice touch to the room.

I found a basket that I liked and that fit well into the slot above my dresser.
Secure felt with hot glue to the bottom of the basket in order to make sliding the basket easy and avoid scratching the furniture.
I used two pieces of brown felt (you can slightly see the seam to the right of center).
Two of these plastic dividers next to one another fit perfectly in the basket.
The lip around the edge of the dividers matches the edge of the basket perimeter.

As you can see from the above image, the dividers allow for plenty of space underneath in order to store scarfs, headbands, and other larger accessories.

This is the view with both of the dividers in place.
Finally, I organized the hair accessories that I chose to keep in the compartments of the dividers.
It felt so good to get this much more organized by clearing out another drawer of junk!
I hope you also enjoy passing along or throwing away things that are not needed, and in the process get more use out of the things that you can easily access.
