Mane Highlights for 8-23-2013

Hear Me Roar!: The L.O.D. blog has gotten a bit of a face-lift this week, as per the main banner and the Archive backgrounds!  All this for the purpose of constantly making it easier to navigate.

Well, last week was a pretty rough one for me (Mane Highlights) and I want to thank everyone who commented publicly or privately with similar stories or thanking me for posting the First Aid/CPR info.  It is comforting to know that other moms have been through tough experiences with their children and have pulled through.  If we continue to share these stories, we will be better empowered with information we may not have even thought we needed.

In light of the heavy mood of last week, I thought we could all use some good laughs...so this week I have put together some really funny stuff.  With a little help from a great comedian and another blogger, I hope this ends your week with some laughter and joy.

Reflection of the Week: Laugh till you cry funny

Jim Gaffigan is truly one of the funniest comedians I have come across.  In an age when comedy seems to be a contest of the crudest, Gaffigan happens to be a "clean" comedian, so little ears can be hovering around.  The cleanliness of Gaffigan's act is certainly not crippling on his comedy.  This father of five (all home births I might add) uses parenting and family life as the motivation for much of his material. Project Update: First Fruits!

If you remember my Veggie Garden Flower Box post, here is the update:
My first pepper has begun to reach a nice size, so I thought it was a good time to update.
Of the three veggie boxes that I planted, the 'Blue Lake' Bush Beans began to come up and then died.  The 'California Wonder' Peppers have two thriving plants, and the 'Sweet Banana' Peppers (pictured) have three thriving plants.  The biggest problem I encountered was squirrels digging in the boxes, so some sort of deterrent will be necessary next time.

Chic of the Week: Never Say Never
I came across blogger Amy Morrison's post, "When I have kids I will never..." and I had to both laugh and smirk with vindication at her ten retractions now that she is a mother. Continue

I leave you with this until next week: Calling all VA Actors

A pro-life rap video is being filmed in VA and is in need of Actors/Actress' willing to participate! No religious affiliation is required.  If you are interested in being considered - please email aweyrich@gmail.com.
Dear Actor/Actress,

My name is Andrew Weyrich.  I am the founder of www.25KDays.com - A Catholic Media Production company.  We are shooting a new Catholic Music Video called 'I'm Countin' On You' in Northern Virginia on Sat, September 28th (in Fairfax, VA) and Sunday September 29th (in Chantilly, VA or Wash DC - TBD).  We are looking for actors and actresses - mainly in their 20s but some in their 40-60s too who are light-skin Black, Hispanic or 'Milano' looking.  The music video is based off of a rap song that has a pro-life (anti-abortion) message.

Below is more information about the commercial.  Actors must be present from 9am - 9pm on the days we shoot: Sat Sept 28th and Sun Sept 29th).

What is 25KDays?  What am I sponsoring if I am in this commercial?:
25KDays is a nonprofit, independent Catholic News Media Apostolate that has no official affiliation with the Catholic Church.  The members of 25KDays are practicing Catholics and are making edgy Catholic commercials to promote and help the Catholic Church and it's teachings. Here are commercials we shot last year:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x6Dd7m0ErhA,  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iFc6deogD7g

What types of genders and ages do you need in the commercial?
Hispanic, Milano or light-skinned Black.

Female Lead in her 20s
Male Lead in his 20s
Mother in her 45-55
Grandmother in her 60s
Newborn from Female and Male Lead

Is there commercial paid?  No.  Acting in it is an unpaid position.

Will I have wardrobe for the commercial?  No.  This is a very low budget production.  We ask that you dress the way you would dress during the day on the street - and that can be casual, business professional - whatever you like.  We want realism.  We may have a hair and makeup person for the shoot but that is still TBD.

Where will this commercial be aired?   Once post production is completed - about 8 weeks after shooting - it will go up on YouTube and the 25KDays Website.  From there it is not set to air on TV anywhere.  However we are working on raising money and if we do so - it is possible that the commercial will air in select US TV markets around the country - that is the end goal. There is no guarantee the commercial will ever be aired on TV - so please know that before you commit.  However that is our end goal - we just don't know how long it will take the raise the appropriate money in the current economic climate.
