Serving Breakfast, Lunch, and Hugs
Tim Harris is the first person with Down syndrome to own his own restaurant. Tim has desired to fulfill his dream of opening the "world's friendliest restaurant" since he was fourteen years old, and now as an adult he has made it happen. His enthusiasm and positive energy is contagious to all who enter the doors of Tim's place.
I especially love the "dance off" that Tim does
every morning in the restaurant parking lot on his way to work because he is so excited about going in each day. This is certainly a contrast to how most of us start our day or enter the doors of our place of work. It sure is inspiring to see someone who has risen up to accomplish a childhood dream, and remains excited about that dream.
As I look back on dreams of my past, they tend to seem diluted now as an adult. Remember how excited you were to pretend you were going to work as a child, or telling your parents that you couldn't wait to have your own house when you were a combative teenager? Now the daily grind does not really add up to playing the day away, and having your own house is a lot more work then you imagined.
Owning your own restaurant may seem like a large accomplishment to some and a trivial one to others, but to Tim Harris it is what he has always wanted and this vocation is not wasted in those whose spirits he lifts daily!
What a great story and a wonderful example that we can all do more with our lives.
