My Cup Overflows

My Cup Overflows

Calling all coffee and tea lovers.
This is a unique way to display your
favorite mugs and create an
interesting and artistic piece for
your kitchen.

Inspired by Psalm 23:5, it is a

great reminder to be thankful
each day for your many blessings
when filling your cup.

What You Need

  • Shutter or other wall hanging (These shutters are popular now and I have seen them at Ross, Marshalls, and T.J. Maxx.
  • Four Black 1" Ceiling Hooks (Gardening section of JoAnn Fabrics)
  • Black Acrylic paint
  • Paintbrush (Fine point tip for letters)
This is a very simple project, with only a few steps and a few supplies needed.
These wood shutters come in all sorts of fun colors.
I used red to match my Tuscan kitchen theme, and loved the feeling it gave of passing by an Italian Villa, with their bright red and yellow shutters!

The fist step is to decide where you want your mugs to hang and then screw in the ceiling hooks accordingly.
I decided to put two on each side but to have them off balance rather than right across from each other.
Here is a visual.  I counted down from the top rail, every two blades and placed a hook, alternating sides.
This gives plenty of room for my over-sized coffee mugs to hang.

This is a close up of the scrip I used.  I did this all free hand and from my own head, but if you are not as confident in your abilities, you may want to use pencil first and search the internet for a font to copy before using paint (you can also use a stencil or permanent marker if that is more comfortable).
I painted the Psalm script across the top rail of the shutter with black acrylic paint and added Ps 23:5 under the 'M'.
As a finishing touch, you can use the slots of the shutter to store and display tea bags!
