Car-Seat Strap Holder
Moms, give yourselves 15 min to make these straps and you will save yourselves so much time and effort getting your little one in and out of the car-seat.

It didn't take me long to come up with this idea after struggling for several weeks to dig the straps out from behind my son to buckle him in, especially when he was sleeping.
They do make nice expensive fancy versions
of these, but if you want a simple d.i.y. project
that works great - here it is!

What You Need
- Elastic (1" Fold-Over Elastic with a funky blue design)
- Velcro (Sew On 7/8 in White Squares)
- Scissors
- Sewing Machine or Needle and Thread
Every car-seat is different. I have a Britax, but many car-seats will be able to use this same measurement scale. As you can see from the above picture, I measured the base of the canopy (in between the seat and the handle). The holders will be connected to the base of the canopy and not the handle. I decided that I would need about 4 1/2" to work with.
Measure 5" of the Elastic and cut.
You will need the extra half inch in order to fold the edges over for a seam.
Then fold the end of the Elastic strip over and lay a Velcro square on it, sewing around the edges of the square to secure it. On the opposite side of the same strip of Elastic,
sew on the complementary square of Velcro.
These pictures illustrate how the Velcro will hook together on opposite sides of the
Elastic strip, to form a loop.
Attach the Holders to the left and right sides of the car-seat canopy and use them to secure the straps each time you take your child out of the seat. Because the Holders are secured to the canopy and not the handle, the handle can be pulled out without interference with the straps.
* If you have an older child who likes to undue Velcro, you may want to make these Holders permanent by hand stitching them over top of the Velcro once you have them adjusted to the right position and length for your car-seat's straps.

The final product is an open seat to place an alert or sleeping baby, without the hassle of digging out the tangled car-seat straps from behind them!
Wow, that video! So beautiful! I'm sitting here crying, thank you so much for posting that :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks Frances, I couldn't agree more. I try to post something uplifting once a week on my Reflections page, and that definitely fit the bill!
